LONDON FASHION WEEK AW16 DIARY

I moved to London from a small town in Ireland one year ago. I can safely say I never expected to be sitting here 12 months later fresh from covering London Fashion Week for the second time on both BecBoop and on my Periscope channel. I was quite unprepared for my first LFW experience (see my beginners guide to LFW here) so AW16 was a much more enjoyable and rewarding experience. If you follow my live streaming adventures on Periscope you will have seen what I got up to but for those who prefer good old photographs and text I thought I would put together my LFW AW16 Diary right here.

Events & Shows

LFW AW16 kicked off for me early Friday morning when I was invited along to the Kurt Geiger London Fashion Week new collection launch event in their Covent Garden store. I lusted over the heels and bags while we enjoyed a fabulous breakfast in-store. I will have more photos and information from the event on BecBoop later this week. Later that night I attended the Showroom Shoreditch LFW Party with one of my friends from Periscope @ZareenSiddiqui. This was fun as the party took place in the designer showroom where I also had time to check out cult jewellery brand Only Child London.

Saturday morning I packed up my LFW schedule and tickets and made my way towards Brewer Street car park, the official showspace for LFW shows. I was there to attend and Periscope the Jasper Conran AW16 Collection. This was definitely the highlight of my LFW AW16 experience and I loved every second of it. I have blogged about the show and collection separately as there was so much to see and enjoy! I was thrilled to share the experience with nearly 2,000 viewers on my Periscope broadcast.

Following the Jasper Conran show I made my way to blogger hotspot The Apartment which is definitely the place to be during LFW. They had so much on to make things easier for bloggers including food by Take Eat Easy and refreshments from Starbucks UK. What more could we want! I took my seat for the debut collection from We Are Kin which took place in the Apartment Studio show space. Next up, I made my way to Freemason’s Hall where I was covering one of the FashionScout shows for a London blogger friend – Fashion Worked. Here I enjoyed the AW16 collection from luxury fashion brand Ashley Isham.  My first day at London Fashion Week AW16 ended at the Amba Hotel, Charing Cross where I attended the multi-designer Fashion International Show. I was most excited to see the collection from Omar Mansoor whom I had heard great things about and which certainly didn’t disappoint.

Sunday morning started with a visit to the Chelsea College of Arts for the Danielle Romeril presentation. This was a really cool vibe around this collection and I was excited to see the Irish designers style. As seen on some of the other catwalks over the week cut-out detail was a big statement. Danielle really focused this with exaggerated cut-out detail on coats and trousers. I really enjoyed the set-up of the presentation as we manouvered between ribbons to see each set of looks.

Later that day I made my way to the Ethologie by Jasper Garvida show which was to be my last show of the season. The venue was a little cramped but I managed to get a good view to see the collection and Periscope this show also for my viewers. I was really interested to see how Jasper Govida worked with woolen materials and some of the pieces reminded me of a modern take on the traditional Irish Aran sweater.
I have curated a collection of my LFW broadcasts on Periscope here so feel free to re-watch at your leisure.

What I Wore

BecBoop LFW Streetstyle
During London Fashion Week comfort prevails. I tend to go for a relaxed style which is perfect for dashing around from show to show. For the first day I went with leather pants with zipper detail from Zara and teamed this with my River Island bodysuit. I haven’t worn a bodysuit since my gymnastics days so I loved styling this and this one from River Island is super easy to wear. I added my silver River Island bomber jacket to complete the look. Bomber jackets have been really popular on most LFW street style blogs I checked out and I am looking forward to styling mine in some more different looks. This one from River Island is quite dressy too so it can work for a day or night outfit. I added a simple pair of silver ankle-strap sandals to complete the look.

For my second day at LFW I was dying to wear this 1980’s vintage smoking coat that I picked up recently at Clerkenwell Vintage Fashion Fair. I wore it over my reclaimed vintage red velvet dress from ASOS which you guys have definitely seen on the blog before and my over-the-knee Zara boots. I was most excited to complete the look with my Kate Spade purse which came out for the special ocassion.
I’d love to hear from you in the comments below. Did you enjoy coming along to Fashion Week with me on Periscope?
