10 Blogging Tips I Learned at the Amazon Associates Event

Well I kind of felt like sharing some blogging tips today, so that’s just what I’m going to go ahead and do. I am sick to my teeth of the “Blogging Mistakes” style posts. You know, the ones that tell you what you’re not supposed to do as a blogger. I’m a firm believer that there are no mistakes; only learning experiences and what works for one person may not work for the next. Every single blogger is different. Bearing that in mind I’m not here to tell you what you shouldn’t be doing but rather share some tips of which you may find one or two of them useful. So please take away from today’s post what you may 🙂

The Event

I attended the #AmazonAssociates event not long after I had moved to London. I’ve been blogging for over 2 years now and this was by far the best blogging event I’ve ever attended – in terms of actual sharing knowledge content. I learned tips at that event which completely helped my up my game in terms of becoming a full-time blogger which I’ve done since moving here. The event took place at Amazon HQ in London which was an awesome place to visit in itself. We were treated to a fab spread of nibbles before the presentations began.
Amazon had lined up a fantastic team of speakers across all different topics including blogger Ella Gregory from Coco’s Tea Party, journalist Gemma Royston-Claire, fashion stylist Rachel Story and blogger Reena Rai from Fashion Day Dreams. The topics included full-time blogging, engaging with your audience, styling blog photos and monetising your content.

Blogging Tips

Believe me I was scribbling all evening long in my notebook and I’m still referring back to it when I’m having a blog brainstorming session. I’ve had another read through my notes and picked out some of the key tips which I thought would be useful for you guys to read.
  1. Regular features – weekly or monthly features will keep your readers coming back.
  2. Use an editorial calendar – this is key for planning ahead especially if you’re making the move to full-time blogging. It’s also great to have an overview of the different topics planned for the coming weeks.
  3. Never blog the same day you press publish – it is key to have put the preparation work into your blog post so at least re-read it the morning you publish the post with a fresh pair of eyes.
  4. Affiliate Networks – there are tons of different affiliate networks you could join. I was introduced to the Amazon Affiliates network at the event which I’ve since signed up to and implemented here on Bec Boop.
  5. Media Kit – when preparing your media kit include a short introduction to your blog, recent stats, global reader breakdown and rate card.
  6. Pitch – don’t be afraid to make the first move. If you  have got a great idea and case-study evidence of how this will work go ahead and make the pitch to the brand.
  7. Brand – think of your blog as a brand.
  8. Engagement – you want your readers to relate and say “me too!”
  9. Photos – bring more into the shot so that it is not just the product. You holding the product can make all the difference.
  10. Be strategic about social media posts – prepare photos which are optimally sized for each network.
