You might be aware that I am hosting my first blog event this Saturday – The Galway Bloggers Party. I have put together a short guide to attending a bloggers event for all you meet-up newbies. The #LDNBloggersParty was the first such event I attended and I will admit I was super nervous about going to the meet-up solo and so I hope this post shares some tips which make your blog meet-up event more enjoyable.
Don’t be afraid to go it alone
Lots of events allow you to bring a plus-one, in the situation where you have been provided with only one invite try and make the most of this. Going solo provides you with the opportunity to spend the entire time at the event networking with bloggers and brands. Alternatively if you bring a guest you are more likely to spend a lot of time talking to them and not making the most of the opportunities presented. I am quite shy and attending blog events on my own has improved my confidence immensely since I attended my first one in June. Be brave..bloggers don’t bite 🙂 To ease the nerves it might also be nice to tweet about the event and get to know some of the other bloggers who will be attending in advance of it.
Bring Business Cards
Business cards are readily available at very reasonable rates and I strongly recommend ordering some in advance of attending a blogger event. I purchased my business cards from Vistaprint where you can customize them to your own taste. At the #LDNBloggersParty I was so glad I had brought my cards as lots of bloggers were exchanging them. It’s also a great way to catch-up with all the new blogs you will discover at meet-ups. Fear not if you do not have enough time to order any business cards as some of the more distinct cards I have received from bloggers have been personalized, custom-made ones with little trinkets attached to really make the business cards stand out.
Be Sensible
At blog events and meet-ups there will be alcohol available either to purchase or provided at the event. It goes without saying that you should be sensible and not drink too much. Nobody wants to be remembered as the blogger who got ‘mortal’! I am always one to enjoy a social drink and at these sort events it is perfectly ok to sip on a cocktail or enjoy a glass of champers but I would advise limiting it to one or two so you can make the most of the event for yourself and your blog.
Don’t be Afraid to Work Your Style
Fashion bloggers have the most amazing and individual fashion taste. No two fashion bloggers will ever dress the same. The great thing about attending blog events is you never know when you might get papped. When I attended the #LDNBloggersParty I popped on my crazy animal hat as I had recently re-discovered it and was enjoying styling the hat in different ways. I never expected the amazing street-style photographer Unlimited by JK to ask me to do a street-style shoot at the event!
Take Photos
If you have invested in a good camera for blogging I would definitely recommend bringing it, if not use your phone! Take lots of snaps, you will regret it if you go to write your blog post about the event and do not have enough images.
Finally
Relax and enjoy the event 🙂
