How to start your day in Oslo

Floating saunas // Norwegian Waffles // Sculpture park

The best way to start your day in Oslo is with a morning sauna and dip in the Oslo fjords. Oslo is home to some unique floating saunas with an impeccable view of Oslo opera house, you can’t miss them when exploring the city. I booked with Kok floating saunas in their Langkaia location with a view of Oslo opera house.

If you don’t have breakfast at your Oslo hotel I highly recommend a sweet treat to start your day with some Norwegian waffles. Not only are these the prettiest waffles I’ve ever seen but the flavours and toppings are very unique to Norway. I recommend visiting Harald’s Vaffel where you can try the Norwegian waffles with brunost, sour cream and raspberry jam. An elite Norwegian combination!

Next up, a visit to Vigeland sculpture park in Oslo for a mid-morning walk. You can see over 200 sculptures in this beautiful park and it’s so lovely to walk around and escape from the busy city.

Make the most of your afternoon in Oslo

Lunch // Oslo opera house roof // Akershus fortress // vintage shopping

Did you know that you can walk on the roof of Oslo opera house! This is such a cool experience, really fun to walk up the slope onto the roof and see the amazing view of the fjords and city down below. This is a free experience in Oslo so definitely don’t miss it.

For lunch on a budget there are lots of street food options in Oslo. I would love to return to Syverkiosken, Oslo’s only remaining hot dog stand to try their Norwegian hotdog which is super unique! It’s served in a lompe (type of potato bread) and super cheap and very tasty. I haven’t had a hotdog like it on my travels!

If you fancy sitting in for lunch in Oslo Lorry restaurant is a quirky restaurant which is more akin to an art gallery with all the unique artwork and sculptures on display. You can try unique Norwegian food like reindeer burgers!

I’d definitely spend some time on your day in Oslo exploring Akershus fortress – it’s free to explore the grounds and really cool to see.

You can also squeeze in some vintage shopping in the Grünnerløkka area of Oslo. This hipster region has plenty of quirky bars and vintage shops where you might find a vintage designer bargain!

How to spend an evening in Oslo

Sunset boat cruise with dinner

A special way to spend your evening in Oslo is to book a sunset boat cruise with dinner in Oslo fjord – This luxury boat tour was a highlight of my Oslo trip, we spent a couple of hours on the boat and cruised past the islands and beautiful scenery before being awarded with a spectacular sunset. We also enjoyed a three course Norwegian dinner with local ingredients.
