Gdansk, Poland’s charming Old Town makes a perfect city break so here is my ultimate Gdansk travel guide. It’s only a 15 minute drive from the airport to the town and Gdansk has recently been named Europe’s best Christmas market and with its charming old town and rustic food scene, Gdansk makes a perfect European city break all year round.

I spent a long weekend in Gdansk last December, it was my first time visiting Poland and I fell in love with the country. I tried as much traditional Polish food as I could and experienced as much as Gdansk had to offer during the Winter months, which is a lot!

I highly recommend staying in Gdansk Old Town during your visit to Gdansk. I stayed at PURO Gdansk Stare Miasto which is one of the top-rated Gdansk hotels. It’s super modern and right in the centre of all the Gdansk fun. Here are some of the best hotels to stay in Gdansk.

If you’re visiting Gdansk during the festive season definitely try all the food at Gdansk Christmas market. This was so much fun! But don’t make the mistake I did and try pierogi at the Christmas market, this Polish speciality is best tried in a restaurant specialising in Pierogi. I’ve listed the Gdansk restaurants I visited and the other Gdansk food recommendations I hope to visit one day!

Gdansk travel guide FAQ

How do I get to Gdansk from the airport?

It’s so convenient to travel from Gdansk airport to the town. We booked an uber but you can also pre book an airport transfer to Gdansk.

Do I need to pre book restaurants in Gdansk?

Where possible I always recommend pre-booking restaurants on my travels. Some of the more popular restaurants such as the pierogi bars get very busy so definitely book ahead. It won’t be possible to book the more casual milk bars.
