I discovered Alexa on twitter a while back and fell in love with her music and story. The fact that Alexa is a Floridian who moved to New York city in search of her dream is so inspiring. Bec Boop: Who is Alexa?
Alexa: I am a Pop Recording artist in New York City! I released my self titled debut album independently on itunes this year. You can check it out here!
Describe yourself in three words.
I am basically a smalltown girl turned big city hustler. Lol ! 3 words to describe me would be Flirty, Fun, and Bold!
Can you tell me how you became involved in the music industry and what inspired you to be a singer?
I got into the music industry because I LOVE it. When I finished my first record, I told myself to just dive into the industry. It’s been a fun ride. I’ve learned A LOT! I also wanted to meet more straight guys…that’s why I choose music over muscial Theater haha just kidding! I always sang and danced in the living room as a kid to Whitney Houston or Celine Dion. I moved to NYC to do it on a larger scale and I never stopped. J
A lot of musicians have that one song which they could listen to over and over again and never get bored. What is your favourite song?
I have a lot of favorite songs. I can listen to Genie in a Bottle by Christina Aguilera over and over again. I like to do the dance too! Anything by Britney or JT.

In your opinion what is the biggest challenge faced by up and coming singers in the current music industry?
The biggest challenge is navigating your way through the industry and figuring out who you should really work with. It all really comes down to you knowing yourself! An artist needs to take time to nurture and develop their craft. It takes discipline, a lot of time, hard work, creativity, persistence, a strong mind, and a positive attitude.
In such a big city, where do you find that you come up with ideas for your songs?
New York City is my inspiration and all the people I meet in it. I like to write about my fantasy adventures in the city too.
Did your experience on MTV’s True Life change your life?
Yes. Once my skin cleared, my confidence definitely grew. I was really thankful for the experience.
How do you draw inspiration for your songs?
Navigating through the dating world of NYC definitely gives me a well of inspiration to draw from. I like to write about having a crazy fun night out on the town where you go dancing and just love the city. I like writing about who I am going to fall in love with and what it might be like. I was in the gym today and was in the middle of a fitness class and I had an idea for a song lyric and I left the class just to go write it down and then I went back to the class. When inspiration strikes, I listen and take notes.
What one piece of advice would you give someone intending on moving to NYC in the hopes of making their dreams come true.
Have a support system. Focus on yourself and write down your goals. Strive relentlessly to make them happen. Be creative. Think outside the box. Be Bold. Anything is possible. Work on your craft and take care of your body and mind! Always push yourself to learn! Find mentors!
This has been a whirlwind year for you Alexa, what has been the best part of your adventure to date?
The best night of my life was my Album Release show at The Bitter End in NYC. It’s where Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and a lot of famous artists have played. It was really special for me. My family flew in from Florida to be there for it. I got to sing a song to my mom and dad. It was a tear-jerker moment.
How do you like to unwind in your spare time?
I love going to the beach and soaking in the sun. I am from Florida originally so the sun is my serenity.
How, in your opinion, has social media changed the music industry for new artists?
You can reach more people online faster. Artists make a living from live shows and merchandise. There is way more free music out there now. YouTube is the new MTV. What message are you hoping your fans receive through your music?
I hope to spread a message of Love and to empower all of my listeners. My music is feel good Pop and I want to make you smile and feel ecstatic to get up and dance and celebrate being alive.
What is your favourite part about performing on stage?
The opportunity to share what I have learned in a song and dance! It’s so fun and the energy in the room is wonderful! It’s one giant party and you are the band leader!
In the hope that you might say Ireland, where is the one place in the world where you would like to play a concert.
I am part Irish so I definitely want to play in Ireland one day! Id love to play in Hawaii too! J
