Guest Article: How to Wear the Latest Trends from London Fashion Week

London fashion Week is starting once again, the electric atmosphere and buzz in the city is palpable. As always, there are many new trends, designers and inspiration to be taken from this season that we can apply to our own wardrobes – that’s the best bit isn’t it?
So what trends can we expect to see over the next week? Well judging by New York Fashion Week, there are plenty of trends for S/S 2014.
Flirty Florals

The one trend that depicts springtime fashion so perfectly; florals for spring 2014 are going to be fun, feminine and effortlessly flirtatious.  The catwalks of New York saw many floral dresses that introduced a new twist upon the classic. Next season is set to see floral dresses that mix a variety of different flower based patterns.  Clashing our patterns has been around for a while now, from matching stripes and spots, to using motif leggings with studded T Shirts. However, little has been seen of clashing our floral patterns.
This looks set to continue throughout London Fashion Week, with many designers heading towards a fresh new take on a classic trend.  We will see this filter through to the boutiques for which there are many offering us designer dresses for every body shape. Perfect.
Pretty Pastels

We last saw pastels predicted for S/S 2013 and they are back this year, but with one major difference. For next spring our pastels are coming in bolder shades, colour blocked and ultimately pumped up.  They won’t be as bright as neon, but you can clearly see how they are no longer the feminine, light shade. Now they are brightly adorning dresses, skirts and tailored blouses.
Prabal Gurang brought forward a beautifully crafted baby blue gown as part of his show that is the epitome of this emerging trend.  Part of the highlighting element of this look was the clever back lighting. But let’s face it, this dress speaks for itself. To get this look working for you, look for fabrics in a pastel shade that have a slight sheen to them. This way they will catch the light creating an extra layer to the colour itself.
Great Ginghams

Gingham is a classic pattern that has been seen across catwalks for over 30 years. It is no surprise that is it back for another year. This classic pattern lends itself to both day wear and evening wear, making it the most versatile trend which is set to be seen all over London Fashion Week.  Similar to how we see tartan ruling this autumn, vintage gingham will be created across skirts, suits, dresses and our accessories.
One of the easiest ways to wear this trend is through a classic coat. This way we can just wear a hint, rather than taking on a head to toe pattern. This coat from Oscar de la Renta’s show is perfect for demonstrating this idea.
